The Incredibles
I saw The Incredibles for the first time this week. A very good movie; you’re only cheating yourself if you don’t go and see it.
Fair warning: There are spoilers in the extended entry.
Naturally, it was hilarious. It’s hard to pick a favorite scene. The whole thing was just so good, from start to finish.
I think The Incredibles is really one of Pixar’s darker movies though. Of course it had the requisite silliness–It’ll be hard to take Mr. Fantastic seriously after seeing Elastigirl as a boat–but a lot of it was the kind of painful, more mature drama that I’m not used to seeing from Pixar, with the exception of the opening scene of Finding Nemo. (That was just sad.)
Between Elastigirl’s suspicion of an affair, Mr. Incredible’s belief that his wife and kids were killed, the violent deaths of several henchmen, the bones of Gazerbeam, and ultimately Syndrome’s fairly disturbing death by jet engine, this movie had a lot of dark elements. That’s not bad; just different.
I like it. I think it’d be interesting if, after Cars, when Pixar and Disney are set to split up, if Pixar would do a drama. (Keeping it clean, of course. That’s one of the things I love about Pixar: I know that every movie they put out will be A) clean enough for my 11-year-old brother to watch with me and B) good enough for us both to watch. Usually the world’s films have problems with A, while Christian films have problems with B.)
Or if not a new drama, how about a sequel?

I second that! They are master story-tellers, and I think they would do a great job on a drama.
