Technology Marches On…

It appears that Parker Brothers has done away with the multi-colored money in their famous Monopoly game and replaced them with debit cards.

Debit cards! I use my debit card all the time, but that’s just not right in a Monopoly game! Half the fun is in collecting giant rent payments in stacks of florescent money! Fortunately it appears that this new version is just a specialty British edition.
As for Monopoly being boring and luck-driven, that’s only the first half the game. The real game starts once all the property is purchased and the bartering begins.
Though I’ve never played it, I’ve actually read a variation of the rules in which most of the property is distributed evenly at the beginning of the game so you can get right to the fun part.

I can’t buy into the idea that Hasbro will eliminate all paper money from their Monopoly games. I know Electronic Monopoly has been popular this year but playing the game of Monopoly is such a tradition in this country that doing away with the money completely feels a bit like the launch of New Coke - the traditionalists, myself included, want their Monopoly with the dollar bills!
