Bathroom breaks are a basic human right

Or at least, they should be. Most schools don't have a problem with kids taking the occasional bathroom break, but a middle school in Lawrence, New Jersey apparently does.

The school said, in response to a concerned parent, that "the bathroom is a privilege, not a right." Oh, really? And what, pray tell, are you going to do? Clean up the mess and pay for whatever psychological damage that wetting his pants would do to a seventh grade boy? (Because you *know* that his parents would sue. I would.)

The school says that the policy was designed "to monitor the school restrooms and stop students from skipping class" and to respond to bomb threats.

Lawrence Middle School's new motto: "Teaching kids about runaway government regulations in the name of safety."

What about diapers or better yet, mandatory catheters? Yeah that'd work.

"Ms. Smith, can I go to the bathroom?"

"I don't know, Billy, can you go to the bathroom? You probably can, but you may not, since you've used bad grammar."

I don't think teachers or anybody should stop students from using the rest room. I mean sure you don't know if their meeting with friends, skipping class, or will be missing the next lesson. But you also don't know if a child has a bladder problem, a girl is having a feminine emergency or that the student just wants to wash their hands. What if all the teachers said no that you could not go to the bathroom, Do you think you could hold your bladder for up to six to eight hours(a school day) and then on a bumpy bus ride home. This is why I feel students should be able to use the rest room whenever needed during school
