Nail in the Coffin--Bush to Call for Scrapping the IRS?

If this Drudge Report story is true, then Kerry will lose the election by a landslide. According to the article, Bush will be calling for eliminating the IRS and replacing our current income tax system with either a value-added tax or a nation-wide sales tax.

If he does this, it will be the most brilliant thing he's ever done. I was planning on voting for him on the basis of the Iraq war, but there are not a lot of domestic issues I agreed with him about. (See Also: free prescription drugs for old people.)

Have you ever seen our tax code? My accounting teacher brought a copy into class once. It's a huge book, thousands of pages of legalese. It needs to be scrapped and replaced. I'd prefer a flat tax on income, but a national sales tax would do OK as well.

I'm really stunned at this. Praise God if it's true.

LOL! Consider the source! Matt Drudge. He *makes stuff up*. The only verifiable truth in the story is that Dennis Hastert rails on about it in his new book.

I think if Bush did announce this, he'd *lose* in a landslide because he'd be correctly perceived as a radical President.

Like the IRS or not, you can't just do away with it over night.

Might be a libertarian's dream, but it ain't likely.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I know, I know, you'll say that the IRS would be replaced by a sales tax so Caesar would get his due . . . but Jesus wasn't talking about a sales tax, was he?

It's hard to get the Bible to jibe with modern thinking sometimes, isn't it?

Drudge: Yeah, I know. Doesn't his website have a warning label that says "Take with 1 King-Sized grain of salt"?

Caesar: This is more based on the principles of good stewardship; if they must take my money, let them do it in a way that's not hideously confusing and expensive.
